Lexicon — Asset Delivery System

This lexicon defines all key concepts used throughout the Asset Delivery System. It clarifies how assets, metadata, releases, and delivery channels interact within Reprtoir and how they map to the ingestion expectations of DSPs and Distributors. All terms are listed alphabetically for clarity.

Asset Delivery System

The Asset Delivery System is Reprtoir’s unified workflow for preparing, validating, and delivering audio, artwork, and metadata to DSPs and Distributors. It centralizes Album and Track data, manages Release creation, applies automated validation via Smart Control, and supports multiple delivery channels.

Automated Delivery Feed

An Automated Delivery Feed is a technical integration allowing Reprtoir to submit Releases directly to a DSP or Distributor using DDEX, API, or custom ingestion endpoints.

Delivery Channel

A Delivery Channel is a pathway through which Reprtoir delivers content. Reprtoir supports three Delivery Channels:

  • Reprtoir Distribution
  • Direct-to-DSP Delivery
  • Direct-to-Distributor Delivery

All channels share the same internal workflow.

Delivery History

The Delivery History is an automated log that records all delivery actions for a Release, including submissions, updates, takedowns, error reports, and acknowledgments from Recipients.

Delivery Validation

Delivery Validation refers to the checks that ensure a Release is compliant before reaching a Recipient. Validation includes Reprtoir Smart Control, Reprtoir’s manual review for Reprtoir Distribution, and automated or manual verification performed by DSPs.

Direct-to-Distributor Delivery

Direct-to-Distributor Delivery is a channel that lets clients use Reprtoir to prepare metadata, audio, artwork, and releases, then deliver those materials through an external Distributor. Delivery may occur via Manual Packages or Automated Feeds depending on the Distributor’s ingestion capabilities. Reprtoir performs no manual editorial checks in this channel.

Direct-to-DSP Delivery

Direct-to-DSP Delivery is designed for clients who hold their own licensing agreements with DSPs. Reprtoir delivers metadata, audio, and artwork directly to DSP ingestion systems through compliant integrations such as DDEX or API endpoints. No manual review is performed by Reprtoir in this channel.

Distributor

A Distributor is a company such as Believe or The Orchard that delivers content to DSPs on your behalf. In Direct-to-Distributor Delivery, Reprtoir outputs packages or pushes feeds depending on the Distributor’s technical capabilities. Reprtoir has no contractual or editorial role in this relationship.

DSP (Digital Service Provider)

A DSP is a digital platform that distributes, streams, or monetizes music or audiovisual content. Examples include Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Deezer, TikTok, and Anghami. DSPs apply their own editorial, technical, and legal rules during ingestion.

Grouped Feed

A Grouped Feed refers to a single delivery endpoint that ingests content for multiple DSPs at once. For example, the endpoint named “Apple Music, iTunes, Shazam” delivers a Release to all three services.

Manual Package

A Manual Package is a ZIP archive generated by Reprtoir for manual deliveries to Distributors. It contains metadata spreadsheets, audio files, artwork, and a folder structure formatted according to the Distributor’s specifications.

Metadata

Metadata includes all descriptive information for Albums, Tracks, and Releases: titles, subtitles, artists, roles, genres, identifiers, and copyright details. Reprtoir structures metadata into dedicated fields to ensure proper mapping to DSP schemas.

Metadata History

Metadata History records all metadata changes made to a Release, Album, or Track. It allows you to review modifications applied by collaborators throughout the preparation process.

Out of Sync

Out of Sync indicates that metadata, artwork, or audio has changed after a Release was delivered. The meaning and available actions depend entirely on the Delivery Channel and the Recipient’s technical capabilities.

Recipient

A Recipient is the destination of a Release. It may be a DSP, a Distributor, or Reprtoir Distribution.

Reprtoir Distribution

Reprtoir Distribution is Reprtoir’s managed delivery channel for clients who do not hold direct DSP licenses. It includes automated validation, manual editorial review, and technical delivery to nearly 50 DSPs.

Reprtoir Smart Control

Reprtoir Smart Control is the automated system that checks Releases for missing metadata, inconsistent identifiers, artwork or audio format issues, and structural problems before they can be submitted.

Takedown

A Takedown is a request to remove a Release from DSPs or a Distributor. Takedown support depends entirely on the Recipient’s ingestion system.

Update

An Update is a modification to an already delivered Release. Updates are only supported when the Recipient’s system accepts automated updates.
