Delivering to Believe

Believe (Manual Packages)

Releases delivered to Believe through Reprtoir use the Manual Package workflow. You must already have access to Believe Backstage and be affiliated with Believe as a distribution partner. Reprtoir generates a ZIP package containing metadata, artwork, and audio files formatted according to Believe’s ingestion specifications. You are responsible for uploading this package into Believe Backstage.

❗️

Important Note

The information on this page reflects the latest ingestion rules and bulk upload formats provided by the Distributor. Although Reprtoir maintains these guidelines with great care, Distributors may update their metadata requirements, templates, or ingestion systems at any time without prior notice.

Always review the imported data carefully in the Distributor’s dashboard after uploading your package. You are responsible for ensuring that all metadata, artwork, and audio files appear correctly before finalising submission inside the Distributor’s interface.

Required Metadata and Assets

Before exporting a Believe package, your Album, Tracks, and Release must meet the minimum metadata and asset requirements expected by Believe. These requirements reflect Believe’s internal validation rules.

Album Requirements

The Album must contain complete core metadata:

  • Main Artists must be filled.
  • Main Genre and Subgenre must be assigned.
  • The Record Label must be present.
  • A Physical Release Date must be provided.
  • Artwork must be present and square, between 1500 × 1500 px and 3000 × 3000 px.

Track Requirements

Each Track must contain:

  • a Main Artist,
  • Title Language,
  • Audio Language,
  • Recording Year,
  • Recording Type,
  • Main Genre and Subgenre,
  • at least one Author and one Composer,
  • an audio file.

Release Requirements

The Release must contain:

  • Copyright Owners (C-Line),
  • Recording Owners (P-Line),
  • a Price.

Release Track Requirements

  • Price must be set,
  • Recording Owners (P-Line) must be filled.

Uploading to Believe Backstage

  1. Log into Believe Backstage.
  2. In the left sidebar, click “New Release”, then “Multiple Releases” (even if your package contains only one release).
  3. Select the metadata file releases_metadata.xls from the “releases” folder in the ZIP package and click “Import”.
  4. In the Import report section, click “Edit it here”.
  5. Under Release Information, upload the artwork file included in the ZIP.
  6. Under Upload Assets, drag and drop the audio files provided in the ZIP (use the web uploader).
  7. Review the metadata and apply any necessary corrections.

Known Limitations and Behaviours

Believe imposes several limitations on how metadata is imported:

  • Track-level Artists are automatically added as Primary Artists at Release level.
  • Release-level Featured Artists are not supported in the metadata spreadsheet and must be added manually.
  • Release Subtitle / Version must be added manually.
  • The Release Format defaults to “Album” and must be corrected manually if needed.
  • If Genre and Subgenre are identical (e.g. Blues–Blues), Subgenre may be dropped during import.
  • Believe automatically sets the Release production year to the oldest Track production year.
  • If your Label does not exist in Believe Backstage, it must be created manually.
  • Believe may generate ISRC-related error messages; you must mass-update “Ask to generate an ISRC” to “No” inside Believe.

These behaviours are controlled by Believe and may change at any time without notice.
