What is an Expense?

An Expense, whether a Fee or an Advance, is a sum that the Organization spends to produce or promote Artists & Repertoire, and which will be recouped, in whole or in part, against the Royalties owed to your Rights-Holders. To learn more, follow the links below.

Adding an Expense

Several types of Expenses can be added:

Advances

An Advance (also known as "Advance on Royalties") is an amount paid by an Organization to a Rights-Holder, which can be a person or a company such as an Artist, a Songwriter, or a Producer, usually to encourage the signing of an Contract, and/or to help to finance a new project. In general, Advances are not included in periodic Royalty Statements payments because they are paid immediately. Click on the following links to learn more about how to add an Advance.

Fees

A Fee (also known as a "Cost"), is an amount that the Organization spends on songwriting sessions or masters production, marketing campaigns, travel expenses, etc. Fees are included in periodic Royalty Statements payments. Click on the following links to learn more about how to add a Fee.
